Indigenous Health Advisory Council (IHAC)

SCPOR’s IHAC

The Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research (SCPOR) seeks to meaningfully engage Indigenous peoples and communities in ways that ensure respectful and collaborative relationships in the area of health research in Saskatchewan. Acknowledging that patient, family and public engagement is central to improving the quality of health research, quality of health care, and the health of Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals within Saskatchewan, SCPOR recognizes the importance of providing space for Indigenous voices and experiences through the creation of the Indigenous Health Advisory Council (IHAC). Given the crucial role of research in shaping the future of health care in the province, SCPOR is committed to honouring Indigenous knowledges and building mutually beneficial relationships based on reciprocity and respect.

IHAC will work together with several SCPOR groups, including but not limited to: the Oversight Committee; the Indigenous Research and Engagement team and the Patient Partner Advisory Council to provide meaningful and culturally competent involvement of Indigenous patients, families and communities in health research policy and program development, including the determination of patient-oriented research priorities and the process of Indigenous patient and community engagement in research projects. IHAC acknowledges that Indigenous people are culturally rooted in their communities and Nations.
