Dr. Ghita Wiebe and team are using HRDP-SK for their research!

Autism is now estimated to affect 1 in 31 children. In Saskatchewan, much of the available data focuses on waitlists and diagnostic wait times. While these measures are important, they don’t tell the full story of how Autistic children and their families experience the healthcare system.
 

Using data accessed through HRDP-SK, Dr. Ghita Wiebe and their research team will look at how autistic children aged 0–18 use healthcare services, the health conditions they experience alongside autism, and how they move through the healthcare system. The team will also compare these experiences with those of non-autistic children and incorporate perspectives from people with lived and living experience.
 

The findings will help build a better understanding of the healthcare needs of autistic children in Saskatchewan and identify opportunities to improve how services are connected and delivered.
